Hui Jia, an Assistant Professor of Data Analytics at the University of La Verne in the United States, she obtained her Ph.D. in Business Analytics and Statistics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her primary research focuses on empirical analysis in the healthcare field, including research on individual and organizational behavior, healthcare policy analysis, and personalized predictive modeling.

【摘要】

The evolving relationship between hospitals and physicians has become a focal point for healthcare managers and researchers, particularly as the healthcare system undergoes a revamp with quality at its core. While hospital-physician integration holds promise as a solution to the challenges faced by hospitals, its effects have been mixed. This study conducts econometric analyses using patient-visit-level data for cardiac surgery in Florida, USA, and adopts an activity-based measure of integration (ABI) to investigate the relationship between integration and clinical care outcomes, such as patient mortality risk, length of stay (LOS) performance, and 30-day readmission risk. This study contributes to the literature by proposing a non-linear relationship between exposure to different levels of ABI and clinical care outcomes. Further, this study suggests that a moderate level of integration could be desirable and provides implications for administrators evaluating their hospital's physician integration initiatives.
